It's sometimes hard to find a "good" coffeehouse when you are out on the road. There are all of the chain places (Starbucks, Caribou, Dunn Bros., etc.) out there and, while you typically know what you're getting, they just don't do much than the bare minimum to sate their customers. They take your order, take your money and make you an undersized/overpriced drink and hurry you out the door. Okay, given they have comfortable tables and Wi-Fi in most of their locations, maybe "rush" you out isn't the right term. Let's just say that they are commercialized and are trying to get customers in and out in a timely manner. I passed up a Caribou in Albert Lea on my way back to Central Iowa a couple of weeks ago, remembering that there was a local coffee shop in Clear Lake, just 25 minutes down I-35 from where I was. Worth the wait in my opinion and sometimes travelers just like to stop, sit and relax and sip a nice hot coffee. I neared the exit and saw the "Cabin Coffee Company" sign and knew this was where I was going to stop. Now if you don't want to venture off of I-35, this probably isn't the place for you, though it isn't a long drive (less than 5 minutes), but it is worth the detour to experience this place, located at 303 Main Ave in Downtown Clear Lake, about one block from the lake. The décor was unique, as one would expect from a private coffeehouse. A nice handwritten menu board with your typical coffeehouse menu (lots of varieties and flavors of coffee drinks, both hot and cold, sandwiches, deserts, rolls, soft drinks, etc.). I hesitate to use the term "western" to describe the theme, but that's about as close as I can describe it. The logo is present everywhere (it looks like an old western sheriff's badge) including on the top of the coffee drinks (see photos that other Yelpers have posted here). I ordered a simple caramel latte with an extra shot of espresso and it was made to perfection by a very friendly barista. She was polite, courteous and makes a GOOD coffee drink! I took my drink and sat down by the lake and slowly sipped it while enjoying the beauty of this quint little summer town. This was my first time actually going into the town of Clear Lake after passing by it a billion times on the interstate. It was well worth it just to find this little gem of a coffeehouse. Cabin Coffee Company does it right. Great service, excellent coffee, a nicely sized menu and lots of customers. It signifies that they are doing something right here. Please take the time next time you are in the mood for some REAL coffee and pull of I-35 and venture into Downtown Clear Lake. Look for Cabin Coffee Company and you won't be disappointed!

Always friendly and fast service. Drinks prepared how you ask. My daughter likes to order her a warm cocoa, and sure enough, it always comes out perfect for her. The food offerings do not personally impress me but that is my personal taste, not because anything is wrong with the food. I love Cabin Coffee in Clear Lake and frequent there pretty often.

We come here every year for a family reunion for my husband. I look forward to coming here! This place is so delicious. The staff is super friendly as well. There's quite a selection of coffee and other drinks to choose from. The prices are reasonable too. This is a must go to place if you are in town! I can't wait for next summer!

Some of the best coffee ever. Great staff friendly and fast with a welcoming at home feeling. It's a great way to start your day. If you are up that way you should stop in for a pick me up and sandwich to go.

What? It's a chain? Get outta town. They pull off the local vibe to a 't'. Impressive work, Cabin Coffee Co. I spent a few hours working here while my boyfriend warmed up for the cycling race one Saturday morning. The shop was bustling with cyclists and locals alike. I love that it had the small town vibe yet still was able to execute tasty bebidas. Along with my drink, I opted for the blueberry bagel as recommended to me by the woman behind the counter. Holy jamoly, they're generous with the cream cheese! (no complaints here) The vibe of the establishment is very bears, fireplace, cabin, Colorado, woodland. It somehow works despite the fact that it's located in a lake town in northern Iowa. I guess it's the proximity to Minnesota? Lastly, friendly service, free and easy wifi and clean bathrooms. Worth a visit if you find yourself in Clear Lake looking for an early morning kickstart.

The coffee wasn't all that terrific other than having driven a quarter across the county made anything beyond gas station Java seem exotic. It lacked richness. However, the cinnamon roll and raspberry scone were fantastic. I recommend grabbing sweets to go and walk toward the lake to enjoy.

Sometimes it's the little things that keep you coming back. I swear they know everyone by name. And they know their coffee, too. I've made this a 3-4 visit per week stop since 2005 and I've never been disappointed. The decor is longhorns, cowboy hat, lariats, and lots of wood, but don't let the Western motif scare you. They do coffee and they do it well. That's why you're stopping by. No coffee snobbery here. Just knowledgeable, friendly staff who are serious about their craft. Pair a cookie-like scone with your favorite drink and you might be reminded of the first time you enjoyed coffee. The cinnamon rolls have a marshmallow softness that melt away as you start to chew. Did I mention the staff? I've never seen a frown. They know my children's names. They dress up for Halloween and other special, local events. And they are creative enough to find the right drink if you're undecided. My coworker from Sweden, who is never undecided about his coffee, visits Cabin twice a year and the staff still remember his name. They pay attention to the little things. That's why I'll keep coming back.

I bought coffee to go, a pastry, and a bag of whole beans. All were great. The scones are highly recommended; pass on the bagels, as the former is baked there. I also very much appreciate the employees telling me exactly how many espresso shots are in each size of drink. Thank you!

I'm originally from Algona. I have never heard of this place until the barista at Dunn Bros-- who makes my coffee Monday through Friday in MPLS told me next time I went home I had to stop in Clear Lake at Cabin Coffee. I finally got home and had time to stop.. YUM! great service, great coffee & yummy treats to accompany coffee! (not to mention the shop is so darn cute!) I'll be back whenever I'm in the area!

This place knows how to do RAGBRAI! Open all night, both grab-n-go items and their regular menu. Was in here yesterday, had the espresso (not sweet enough for my taste, but I think others would like it - very bold flavor), and some eats. Back this morning for egg bagels (fantastic!) and the palomino (even better!), and Kristi, the proprietor, remembered us, with 10,000 people rolling through town!

A great coffee/cafe place! They have hot, iced and frozen drinks. They also have breakfast and lunch sandwiches! Great place to spend a few mins to relax or longer to meet with friends. They even have a small table towards the back for kids(their height)! The decor is a rustic/cowboy type. Very cute!!

Best coffee in town (and in the state of Iowa), wish we had one of these in PHX. Hot or cold they make great coffee. My only issue is their gift certificate/pos system, goofy at best.

Perfect location on Main Street right across the street from Clear Lake City Park. Comfortable lake cabin atmosphere with many options for seating. Friendly staff. Kids will enjoy sitting on the two saddles positioned near the first table. Wide variety of coffees and other beverages. Tasty breakfast, lunch and dessert items. A great place to start your day at the lake or to take a break from shopping.
